Frequently asked questions
How thick should compost be for topdressing a lawn?
Just 1/4 to 1/2 inch — enough to filter down between grass blades without smothering them. A cubic yard covers a lot at that depth.
When should I topdress my lawn with compost?
Typically in the growing season after aerating, so compost works into the holes. Rake it in so blades show through.
